Pumpkins "Adore" In the wake of drummer Jimmy Chamberlin's departure, the Pumpkins have taken a giant step away from the grunge-flavored, turbo-powered alt-rock anthems that made them famous. On ADORE, Billy Corgan and company opt instead for a more scaled-down approach that relies heavily on acoustic instruments and ballads of love and longing. Corgan may still be expressing angst here, but he does it in an understated, romantic way. the follow up to: Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness |

| Dave Matthews Band: Before
These Crowded Streets A conceptual and musical tour de force ... shines above much of today'sdisposable pop fare. Alanis Morissette guests on two cuts, "Spoon" and the disc's first single, "Don't Drink the Water," and banjo whiz Bela Fleck sits in, too. More interesting, though, is the modernist string arrangement played by the Kronos Quartet on the driving "Halloween." follows up: Under The Table And Dreaming , Remember Two Things and Crash |

Joy Darkness KEROUAC: KICKS JOY DARKNESS is a collection of readings from beat poet Jack Kerouac's oeuvre. Most of these readings have musical backing. Engineers include: Mark Sandman, Lydia Lunch, Tom Lewis, Jack Kerouac, Joe Strummer, John Cale, Robert Hunter, Warton Tears, Eric Andersen. Producer Jim Sampas presents a sampling of Kerouac's writing styles, including "pomes" (short snippets of poetry), "blues" (longer, jazz-influenced choruses of poetry), and "dreams" (snapshots from his dreams). There are also four previously-unpublished pieces. Kerouac's words are set against a variety of musical backgrounds with results as diverse and alive as Kerouac's poetry and prose itself. |
